Feeling overwhelmed by the endless color options out there? Don’t worry—you’re not alone. Choosing the right color palette from Nippon paint can feel daunting, but it doesn’t have to be. Online resources such as Qanvast, Pinterest and Home & Décor can be beautiful but confusing.

How to Choose the Perfect Color Palette for Your Home

Here are 3 tips to get you started:

🎨 Start with your base color. This could be a neutral shade or one inspired by your favorite furniture piece.

🎨 Think about the room’s function. Calming tones like blues work well for bedrooms, while energizing hues like yellows suit kitchens or workspaces.

🎨 Balance bold and neutral tones. A pop of color is great, but it needs a calm base to shine.

At Aart Boxx Interior, we believe your color palette should reflect your personality and create a mood that feels right for each space.

Whites

If you’re drawn to “white” as your go-to color, don’t let maintenance concerns hold you back. Opt for an off-white shade to add warmth and reduce harshness. White has been a trending color in recent years, especially among younger homeowners, and for good reason. At Aart Boxx Interior, we love white and highly recommend it.

Pros:

White makes your home look bigger, brighter and creates a clean, fresh look. It is also easy to touch up without patchiness and provides a great base for future color changes (compared to darker shades). Most importantly, it matches effortlessly with any furniture, decorative pieces and is timeless & pleasing to the eyes!

Cons:

It is probably not ideal for families with young kids, as scribbles and stains are more visible (though this applies to any wall color—teaching kids not to draw on walls is key!) White may appear “boring” to some, as white is often associated with being plain. Psychologically feels less cost-effective, as some think paying for plain white lacks value.

Best suited for:

Home owners who wants to go for Minimalist, Modern or Scandinavian design concepts.

Greys

Grey is one of our designers’ favorite colors. While two-tone grey walls were popular in the past for segregating spaces, this approach is now considered outdated—a very typical Singaporean trend. Instead, we recommend going for a consistent medium-tone grey throughout the space to create a clean, synchronized look that feels modern and cohesive.

However, because grey is associated with a cold, somber vibe, too much of it may feel emotionally heavy or even depressing. That’s why we don’t advise using grey as the main color for kids’ rooms, especially during their growing up years, unless it’s a very light hue.

To balance the coldness of grey, we highly recommend pairing it with warm-colored carpentry or furniture, like woodgrain cabinets, to bring warmth and character into the space. We also recommend greys to be matched with whites in general to soften the overall look.

Maintenance tip:

Dark grey walls can be tricky to maintain, as scratches or chipped paint are difficult to touch up. A fresh coat often leaves visible patches, requiring a complete repaint of the wall for a consistent look.

Pros:

Grey adds character and depth to your home, creates a cozy and modern feel. It also matches easily with furniture and decorative pieces.

Cons:

Darker shades of greys are more difficult to maintain and it may feel emotionally cold or depressing in large amounts.

Best suited for:

Interior concepts such as Industrial, Modern and Scandinavian-inspired spaces.

Beige / Neutral

A favorite among ladies and one of the most popular trends in 2024, beige and neutral tones provide a warm, calming, and timeless feel. These colors are perfect for creating cozy and inviting spaces and work well in almost any setting.

This concept is especially popular for a “one color for the whole house” approach, where the same tone is applied throughout the space. Beige and neutrals are versatile enough to stand alone, requiring no additional wall colors to look stunning.

Pros:

Neutral tones are aesthetically pleasing and versatile, it is easy to match with furniture and décor. Timeless and soothing ambiance, it amazingly makes your home appear brighter and more spacious.

Cons:

It may look plain if not paired with the right furniture or accents. The clean and polished look can be challenging to maintain.

Best suited for:

Cozy, inviting spaces, Minimalist or Scandinavian concepts and home owners that are aiming for a timeless, elegant look.
